The Swiss Reformation including the Passion Play Oberammergau

Day 1
Upon arrival in Munich, the capital of Bavaria you are met by the local tour guide who will accompany you throughout your stay. Start your stay in Germany with a sightseeing tour by bus and on foot through Munich highlighting the historic old city with its famous buildings and squares including the Marienplatz with the town hall and its "Glockenspiel" and the "Frauenkirche" (Church of our Lady) with its distinctive onion-topped towers. Then onward to view the Olympic Park and Nymphenburg Palace, baroque residence of the Bavarian kings. Dinner and overnight. D

Day 2
Dachau Concentration Camp - Munich (50km)
Following breakfast you drive to Dachau Concentration Camp to visit to the museum with its reconstructed barracks and crematorium where the holocaust is documented. Return to Munich for some free time. In the evening enjoy a typical Bavarian dinner in one of the beautiful beer gardens or breweries such as the Hofbräuhaus. Dinner and overnight. B, D

Day 3
Herrenchiemsee (200 km)
This morning, you board the coach for a short drive to nearby Lake Chiemsee, also known as the "Bavarian Sea" situated in the beautiful Bavarian Alps and surrounded by unspoiled nature. Take a short boat ride to the "Herreninsel" to visit the splendid Herrenchiemsee Palace. Never completed, this impressive castle, built by Bavaria's King Ludwig II, was intended to become the "new Versailles." Return to Munich. Dinner and overnight. B, D

Day 4
Oberammergau (100km)
World-renowned, this quaint Bavarian town is the site of the extravagant Oberammergau Passion Play – performed only once every ten years. The permanent exhibition explains the tradition and history behind this spectacle. Take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Dinner and overnight. B, D

Day 5
Linderhof – Neuschwanstein - Meersburg (230km)
After a late breakfast, drive through the beautiful and scenic Bavarian countryside. Today's highlights will be two of the most famous, delightful fairytale castles built by King Ludwig II. You visit Linderhof Palace and stop at Neuschwanstein Castle for a taking some pictures. Continue the journey to Lake Constance, the largest lake in Germany and the third largest in Europe. Dinner and overnight. B, D

Day 6
Rhine Falls - Zurich (220km)
Your journey continues to Switzerland. On the way, you visit Reichenau Island (World Heritage Site) to visit the Benedictine Abbey of Reichenau. Today the island is also famous for its vegetable farms and wineries. Drive along the Rhine River and the foothills of the Alps through breathtaking scenery to Schaffhausen, Switzerland and view the Rhine Falls (Rheinfall), Europe's largest waterfalls. Then on to Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland located on Lake Zurich: Dinner and overnight in the Zurich area. B, D

Day 7
The guided city tour takes you to the Grossmunster Cathedral: It was here that Huldrych Zwingli began the Swiss Reformation; the Fraumuenster Abbey with its stunning stained glass windows by Marc Chagall; to St. Peter's Church boasting the largest clock face in Europe. In the afternoon, leisure time to shop or explore. In the evening enjoy a typical Swiss Fondue dinner. Overnight in the Zurich area. B, D

Day 8
Berne - Lake Geneva (260km)
Drive to Berne, the capital of Switzerland and enjoy the city tour through the medieval historic centre (World Heritage Site) with one of the longest shopping arcades in Europe; the Zytglogge – an elaborate medieval clock tower with moving puppets, the gothic Munster Cathedral, the 15th century town hall and the Bärengraben or Bear Pit. Then on to Lake Geneva for dinner and overnight. B, D

Day 9
Full-day sightseeing tour through the stronghold of the Swiss Reformation, associated most closely with John Calvin an Huldrych Zwingli. You visit St. Pierre Cathedral, Temple de l'Auditoire, Collège Calvin, Reformation Monument, University, International Museum of the Reformation, town hall and several medieval "Bürgerhäuser." At the end of the city tour you visit Calvin's grave. Dinner and overnight. B, D

Day 10
In the morning, depending upon departure time, free time to shop and then airport transfer and return to the United States. B
